Holocaust Survivor Stories - Grade 6-8 guest speaker

Over the last few weeks, our grades 6 to 8 students had the privilege of listening to Dori Ekstein share the inspiring stories of her parents, both Holocaust survivors. Dori is a former classroom teacher and now works in schools to educate students about the Holocaust.

First she spoke with the grade 6s and shared her mother’s story. Her mother, Mina, survived two and a half years in hiding during the years of the Holocaust. A few weeks later, she spoke to the grade 7s and 8s about her father, David. David survived life in Auschwitz, the Concentration Camp. Following the Holocaust, Mina and David found each other and eventually built a beautiful life and family here in Toronto.

We thank Dori for sharing her parents’ stories, educating us about the strength of the Jewish people before, during, and after the Holocaust, and helping us all learn about and understand the importance of standing up to antisemitism and hate in all forms.
