November's Mental Health Newsletter - Stress & Resilience

Mental health and well-being are a priority for the York Region District School Board. We have a Mental Health and Addictions Strategy that sets out actions to foster mental health and well-being. Our approach to mental health focuses on promoting positive health and well-being, and providing a tiered approach to supporting students.

November's Mental Health Newsletter for families and caregivers has a focus on "Stress & Resilience." Vist the board's Mental Health webpage for more information.

Picture Re-Take Day - Nov 2 (tomorrow!)

Was your child absent for picture day?

Thursday, Nov 2nd is picture re-take day.

Book Tasting Menu

Last week and this week students are being invited into the library for a "taste test". Junior and Intermediate students have the opportunity to explore a selection of new fiction books. The goal is to get their opinions about which books to order for the library and what types of books the students like. After each taste test, students fill out a menu indicating their opinions.

Next, the library will introduce non-fiction books into menu!

Hello Grove community!

Our lost and found is growing in size by the day.

Please take a look at the pictures below to see the water bottles and shoes that we have in our lost and found. We're happy to say that yesterday, we were able to return 2 pairs of shoes and 1 water bottle because they were labelled.

If you see an item that belongs to your child(ren), please contact the office and let them know.

NOTE: All lost and found items that are not collected by the end of the day on November 17th will be donated to charity.

This is a great time to remind everyone that we have partnered with Mabel's Labels! If you want to order labels for your children's clothing, water bottles, lunch boxes, pencil cases, and other items, our school gets a portion of the proceeds.

Simply type in Aurora Grove Public School and then click "Let's get shopping".

Halloween & Costumes

Each year, many students choose to show off their Halloween spirit by dressing up in costumes that meet our school’s dress code. Students will be able to dress up on Tuesday, October 31st.

Please note that on October 31st, any Halloween related activities are optional, and students will have a choice to participate in alternative activities.

Students may dress up but they must follow Board Protocol.  York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0 in accordance with the Education Act, includes the following: “during a school-related activity or event, the principal will suspend the student and shall consider expulsion [for infractions including]: possessing a weapon or replica weapon, including possessing a firearm.” Students celebrating this occasion in costume at our school must comply with this policy.

Costume accessories including, but not limited to, toy guns, knives, axes, swords, etc. are not in compliance with York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0.  Similarly, costumes should be respectful of all identities. For example, if something is representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs, then it should NOT be worn as another person’s costume.

As always, students should not bring food to school to share with their classmates. We are an allergen safe school and do not permit students to share food.

We hope all our students who celebrate have a fun, safe, and healthy Halloween!

Mathematics in the YRDSB

In the YRDSB, students will be confident problem solvers who use mathematical knowledge, skills and processes to be contributing members of a changing society.
To support the learning and teaching of math, we have developed a board-wide Math Strategy. Math success for all students requires a strong partnership between home and school. That’s why we are committed to providing parents with the support they need to support the mathematical thinking of their child.
Please check out the Mathematics page on our board's webiste for a monthly newsletter and a monthly math problem you can try with your child(ren) at home.
